Love for the Feast

Sam and Jodie's story

It was Sam's very first Ride for the Feast when they met Jodie, who had already been riding on team Fierce Chicks Rock for a few years. Sam was new to Baltimore and taken with the spirit of the event as well as Jodie's distinct and charming laugh, which they would come to cherish for many years.

Sam moved to Baltimore in 2009. They likely would have never ended up here had they not heard of a small nonprofit serving the HIV community in need of registered dietitians. When Sam learned the two biggest fundraising events for the organization was a bike ride and drag show they said, "sign me up!". Sam knew then that Moveable Feast was a special place but didn't know how special of a connection they would find in just a few years.

Jodie was disappointed when she heard Sam had decided last minute not to be a Ride for the Feast bus captain in 2010. She knew Sam then as a dedicated and passionate Moveable Feast employee, someone she wanted to get to know more. She also knew Sam shared her values and interests in social justice and strengthening their community but couldn't have imagined the connection they would soon form.

The two barely spent any time together during Sam's first ride in 2010, but they immediately connected on Facebook, thinking more about each other than how sore their legs were. They started training for the next ride together, chatted frequently, and challenged each other mercilessly via Words with Friends. Eventually, they became a couple and celebrated their love in marriage five years and countless bike rides later.

Like most love stories, this one starts with an unforgettable laugh, but it wouldn't be a Ride for the Feast love story without a warning not to forget the Chamois Butt'r.

Petal on, beautiful people. You never know what could be around the corner!
