What is the most common mistake you see with new riders? Not pumping up their tires! People have trained and trained for this ride, and then take off with flat tires. Fortunately, we are there to help with this - but at the very least - please check your tires! Also, adjust your seat. If your knees are sticking out to the side, adjust your seat. So, let's say this is your first ride, and you're like "Angie circa 2014" - borrowing your Gramma's 50-pound hybrid that's been rusting in the garage. What can that rider do to make a long-distance ride more comfortable? Try to get the bike in the as best shape it possibly can be. You can't change the weight of the bike or the width of the tires, but you can make sure everything is running efficiently. Take it to a bike shop and see what kind of tune-up it needs; Make sure the chains are clean, the brakes aren't rubbing, the seat is adjusted, the tires are straight, and the gears are working. This is a service we offer at Joe's, and we will tell you what you need. If you are in a position to graduate from your grandmother's garage bike, we can also help you find the right bike for your needs. Consider what you want to use the bike for and what is important to you - speed, stability, control, and use, and we can help you figure out your options from there. Lastly, what are you looking forward to the most this year? Hopefully nice weather, but really, seeing familiar faces and friends. I have made so many great friends through Ride for the Feast, lifelong friends. I probably get more hugs than I pump tires. I never feel more welcomed and appreciated than I do at Ride for the Feast. |
