Mission Moment to Remember Last Friday was World AIDS Day, an annual event that serves as a reminder of the global struggle to end HIV-related stigma, an opportunity to honor those we have lost, and a rallying cry to commit to working toward a day when HIV is no longer a public health threat. A Moveable Feast client and AIDS survivor shares why access to healthy, nutritious food was so critical when facing her most challenging days: "I was diagnosed with AIDS in 1981, and I got involved with Moveable Feast as a driver who did the deliveries for people who were very ill. Then, I got extremely sick. Eventually, I could not even stand up to cook my own food at the stove. At that point my case manager contacted Moveable Feast so that I would have nutritious fresh meals on a weekly basis. So I can speak from experience as a former volunteer and now as a client how important this service is to people who are living with HIV/AIDS, Cancer and other life-threatening life-changing illnesses. I encourage everyone to support this life-saving program. I want to thank Moveable Feast and everyone who has anything to do with it for helping to save my life and to show me that there's someone who cares about me!" -Moveable Feast Client |
